Welcome to North Bonneville, Washington
Skamania County Heritage is a project of Washington Rural Heritage, a collection of historically significant materials residing in libraries, heritage institutions, and private collections throughout Washington State. The collection includes photographs, documents, and artifacts that tell the stories of Washington’s small and rural communities. Skamania County Heritage is coordinated by the Stevenson Community Library, Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, which works with local heritage organizations and private contributors to digitize and provide enhanced access to historically significant materials documenting the history of Skamania County. The Stevenson Library was founded by the Stevenson Women’s Club in 1921. Stevenson joined with the Vancouver, Washington library in Clark County in 1952 to form Washington State’s first regional library district. The current Stevenson Library was constructed in 1967, with a timeless design of wood-and-rock materials and large views of the Columbia River Gorge. Stevenson’s Local History collection includes nearly 600 items, featuring memoirs by local authors, legal documents, historic volumes with unique photographs, and some Stevenson High School annuals dating as far back as 1926. A smaller collection is housed at the North Bonneville Library. North Bonneville Library was the third library in the district, joining in 1953 and providing their own quarters in North Bonneville’s City Hall. North Bonneville Library has continued to have a presence in City Hall, moving with the city into new quarters in the early 1980s when the town’s relocation was complete. The two libraries and bookmobile serve 10,000 residents of Skamania County, as well as many rural patrons and schools in western Klickitat County.
